Week 5 DFI

 Week 5

You can look back to select the revision aspects for the exam.  READ THE QUESTIONS CAREFULLY

It is really like  comprehension alongside the task.

Visible

Dorathy discussed what the term visible means in our DFI world and the world of  Manaikalanin. Simple “can you see it or can you not’.  Can you see the teaching and learning. Is it visible to - the teacher- to the whanau - the staff/ to other colleagues.  Dont keep the learning journey hidden from your students or their parents.  Use the many ways of sharing that can allow all supports of one learner to know the path the direction and the right steps heading towards success.

I would describe myself as more of an introvert and I struggle slightly with putting myself and my stuff out there. I lack confidence in a way and have nagging concerns that what I am doing may not be good enough.  This modern way with you having an open online presence has challenged me.  On so many levels I have progressed forward trying new things and have made many attempts to put myself out there.  I am still working on this and also work to learn more so that what I have to share I  can feel proud of. Today we discussed  the power of sharing your journey.  Your planning your failures and your successes.  The impact you can have on others by making your planning,  teaching learning and thinking VISIBLE can be hugely Powerful to others though this effect may be invisible to you.  You have more impact than you will know being VISIBLE.  This is something for me to let resinate with me.  I do know I can learn so much from glimpses of others ides directions and journeys and how thankful am I to those who share resources saving me hours of  my time preparing very cool learning support materials!!!

Muli modal

This is delivering information from one person to another.  Important to remember that what works for some does not work for others. So many others that we are communicate with have different modes of communication.  It is important for us to find ways to cater for the range of different learners their modes and their learning styles. Engagement personalising it so it reflects the person who is producing it. Priority goals listed below,

In the past the children who have the ability to seemingly read the teachers mind and intentions are the ones who are able to access the learning and succeed.  We should aim to ensure that all students have the ability to have clear vision of what is expected of them on their learning journey and that they need to do going forward and to access success.  On top of this that parents and families also have this access and knowledge VISIBLE and available easily for them. Technology does offer so many additional ways to meet every ones needs should we work to ensure this occurs.

Sites

What makes a good site?

Your site should have the draw in like a really desirable shop.  The viewers want to go in and see whats on the site - whats happening, the wanting to be part of it.  Your front page is the initial draw in ...or NOT.  Is it inviting and exciting? - like a well dressed shop window… "ohhh, I just have to go in and see what’s inside!"... is the desired effect on viewers / participants - the waning to view see more and engage or buy in.

Students have a voice

Sites designed to give choice and encourage collaboration.

Overall Reflection of today.

WOW I HAVE LOVED TODAY!!!   I have found today sooooo helpful. I have learnt so much more about sites.  (A great deal by having time and set tasks to work on using them. I have begun a revamp on my own class site.  As although I have been using the site that I had help creating last year (pre-lockdown I loved it)  Since lockdown I have found that it no longer suits my and the classes needs.  I also have a different vision for how I would like to present and interact with my class, whanau and audience online.  Frustration had begun to set in as I felt I wasn't sure how to go about changing it.   I now can independently do sooooo much more to change and insert things on sites.  This was a real positive inspirational day.  It is so nice to be finishing the day feeling that I accomplished so much and also have the inspiration and motivation to go off and make changes and adaptions that will work well for me, my learners and my  learning community.

Sites EXPLORE

Eyes on text Tshaped literacy.  REading wide and deep.  They say we are not teaching reading well that learners abilities across the board and over the years are dropping.  How can we embrace the technology which is here to stay to embrace and improve reading and reading achievement for our NZ students?  Not all texts are created equal.  Careful text selection is important

DFI WEEK 4
Dealing With Data
Hapara - primary teachers need to look through the top line and check more Check on comments Don't click to open posts that may be spam as it will explode the issue indicating to the spam bot a hit. Make a note and deal with it later.

The Share Concept
Right from the beginning of time we have been sharing. Sharing can occur in so many ways with so many things … sharing food - sharing things sharing joy, fun conversation and time, love and laughter. Sharing is important and needs to be two way to be sustainable for people to keep it going. So many ways to share online have happened through time. People have use these many vehicles to share and communicate. In DFI we use blogger.  It is not the smartest or the most popular tool / vehicle but it has the functions that allow students to have a good platform to teach digital citizenship and cyber safety.

 Google Forms
Used to get a response from participants, create a quiz, find out information or opinions, or to gather data.
It is important to make sure that whanau or those out of your school have access to view and participate. You need need to allow access in the sharing settings or they will be unable to access and participate . There are many features to google forms. You can limit one response from email to ensure you get an accurate representation of your participants views or ideas. (ie not one person submitting their views multiple times.
You can shuffle question order so each participant gets questions in a random individual order. This means if the form is a test or intended to gather each individuals thinking then neigbours can't copy as questions to each participant can be random. If you wish your class to focus only on this without exploring other tabs ect then you can lock students into the participant completing the form without being able to surf or begin something else online or on the device.- This is however only if the users are using a chrome book or device managed within your domain.
Can send to open in email or if larger can open in another tab.

My Maps
Add marker points Name each marker point and can add image also Set default screen so you don't have to zoom in. Once you have marker points you can find distances from point you point This tool can be used for maths.. My maps I figured I could use in my personal life or to demonstrate distances or routes

Google Sheets EXAM support slide check this as it is all that will be in the exam on google sheets. I have dabbled in google sheets and can see that it could be really useful. As I am getting use to how to use the many possibilities and functions that sheets has I am starting to feel a wee bit excited. Once we practiced a bit and I was able to see my information transforming into rather cool graphs quite quickly I felt less over whelmed and I began to imagine how this could look in my role as a teacher.
Sharing information and data to others.
With my class - I could even see this as a tool that we could use to make a quick visual graph of class statistical data gathered input then presented in graph form to analyse and make statements about together. I am motivated to play some more to become quick at this. I can definitely see multiple uses for this in my role. I do find myself not quite grasping all the shortcuts so I do things the long winded way because I just know that it works even if it takes a bit longer. My goal is to take that little bit of time to learn skills that will save more time in the long run.  I am also intrigued but the huge number of tools and want to explore these further.

DFI Media

Its all about the hook The importance of creativity and how it fuels learning. This was at the heart of learning in NZ but has become less important and needs to be brought back and reignighted. Creating a you tube channel and making a playlist making it child friendly SISOMO sight sound and motion revisit slides to study Filming - you need a tripod to produce quality fiulming Always film in landscape so you can uise this againg later in the best form. Ways you can use footage Drones Live streaming Blue screen or green effective you can get green screen paint to paint a wall or have green screen carpet or wall cover. Pod casting chrome music lab. Pod cast using go So many options with media with ipads also You DO NEED A SILENT space for clean noise. Possibly one of the best things that I feel that I have taken from today is the session on using google slides to plan. As my school has for sometime now have taken the journey from using paper planning to have mostly transrotmed to using online docs and slides to doccument everything. My personal journey is currently in the transformation phase where I feel I am exploring a number of options, yet I havent really nailed it down to the very best and easier way for me, my school and my class. I am still exploring the way that works that I can feel that I have full evidence and planning and that I can seamlesly move betwwen and locateall of my infromation.
