Work flow

Time to reflect and share with colleagues

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

We had and interesting Google hangout with Lenva from Auckland. She gave us more stories, information and success stories from the way Manaiakalani has impacted the learning of both students and teachers. We concentrated on the ways teachers can recognise best practice and then turbo charge teaching and learning.  Also recognizing and using Digital technologies to further enhance this.
Oh my I have made real impact even today starting to sort and organise emails and utilise a few more of the fantastic tools that google has to offer.  There is a whole worle of clever tricks that is opening up to me.  So much to explore when clicking in the settings bar and discovering that you can.  reset your screen to a theme, reset setting to enhance and organise so many aspects of how technology can work for you.  I loved the scheduled emails as I am a night owl and often choose the quite time later at night or in the early morning and it is frustrating if you formulate an email or have a need to send something but think timing is not appropriate!

    Google Keep
this is a great way to house information in the form of text, images or (links ) that you can have at the ready and access really quickly.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
I feel empowered to work with my learners to investigate and plan more around the way that I could really add to and enhance my program using digital technologies and the learn create share approach to empower and engage.  Holding on to what works but adding to that and perhaps changing it up a little.

    Too many Tabs
That is me too many tabs! Then trying to navigate around the long line of them can become very tricky

Google hang out and record session.
this session was a tad frustrating as our computers did not have the recording aspect and even using someones mac we did not successfully get the task done.  I can see that these hang outs are yet another way to connect with others even from a huge distance easily.  It was interesting that one of our colleagues mentioned that a friend of hers is in a city of the world currently undergoing  lock down due to the corona virus.  She said that this is how she must currently connect with her students daily.  This is also a discussion that was floated up at the mind lab during some PD learning I attended there.  This is available and distance learning is definitely becoming an option that may become more popular whether it be to gather information from and expert or  a path teaching will follow more widely.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

I feel that the way I manage my digital technologies in my life currently is like a crazy disorganized messy filing cabinet.  I KNOW that I can make my life much easier if I would take some time to organised and sort, emails, documents files and my systems.  I feel like I have been gifted some fantastic tools and if I go away and give time to this I will be richly rewarded with greater organisation and access to information and my personal management on so many levels

  1. Kia ora Rachel,
I think you make some great points about taking the time to get organised with digital tools, both professionally and personally. I know I can find myself getting frustrated that I can't do something quickly as the technology is super quick and what takes the time is finding the best solution and learning how to use this effectively. However I have to remind myself that taking the time to learn something new is well worth the time and effort and then yes, it is super quick and appears effortless to do the task.

  2. Kia ora Rachel,
Its a shame your laptop didn't behave for the Hangouts.
Hangouts might become very important to us in the close future with #remotelearning a possibility, as your friend has found.
It was great working with you in day #2.
