Week 5 DFI

 Week 5

You can look back to select the revision aspects for the exam.  READ THE QUESTIONS CAREFULLY

It is really like  comprehension alongside the task.

Visible

Dorathy discussed what the term visible means in our DFI world and the world of  Manaikalanin. Simple “can you see it or can you not’.  Can you see the teaching and learning. Is it visible to - the teacher- to the whanau - the staff/ to other colleagues.  Dont keep the learning journey hidden from your students or their parents.  Use the many ways of sharing that can allow all supports of one learner to know the path the direction and the right steps heading towards success.

I would describe myself as more of an introvert and I struggle slightly with putting myself and my stuff out there. I lack confidence in a way and have nagging concerns that what I am doing may not be good enough.  This modern way with you having an open online presence has challenged me.  On so many levels I have progressed forward trying new things and have made many attempts to put myself out there.  I am still working on this and also work to learn more so that what I have to share I  can feel proud of. Today we discussed  the power of sharing your journey.  Your planning your failures and your successes.  The impact you can have on others by making your planning,  teaching learning and thinking VISIBLE can be hugely Powerful to others though this effect may be invisible to you.  You have more impact than you will know being VISIBLE.  This is something for me to let resinate with me.  I do know I can learn so much from glimpses of others ides directions and journeys and how thankful am I to those who share resources saving me hours of  my time preparing very cool learning support materials!!!

Muli modal

This is delivering information from one person to another.  Important to remember that what works for some does not work for others. So many others that we are communicate with have different modes of communication.  It is important for us to find ways to cater for the range of different learners their modes and their learning styles. Engagement personalising it so it reflects the person who is producing it. Priority goals listed below,

In the past the children who have the ability to seemingly read the teachers mind and intentions are the ones who are able to access the learning and succeed.  We should aim to ensure that all students have the ability to have clear vision of what is expected of them on their learning journey and that they need to do going forward and to access success.  On top of this that parents and families also have this access and knowledge VISIBLE and available easily for them. Technology does offer so many additional ways to meet every ones needs should we work to ensure this occurs.

Sites

What makes a good site?

Your site should have the draw in like a really desirable shop.  The viewers want to go in and see whats on the site - whats happening, the wanting to be part of it.  Your front page is the initial draw in ...or NOT.  Is it inviting and exciting? - like a well dressed shop window… "ohhh, I just have to go in and see what’s inside!"... is the desired effect on viewers / participants - the waning to view see more and engage or buy in.

Students have a voice

Sites designed to give choice and encourage collaboration.

Overall Reflection of today.

WOW I HAVE LOVED TODAY!!!   I have found today sooooo helpful. I have learnt so much more about sites.  (A great deal by having time and set tasks to work on using them. I have begun a revamp on my own class site.  As although I have been using the site that I had help creating last year (pre-lockdown I loved it)  Since lockdown I have found that it no longer suits my and the classes needs.  I also have a different vision for how I would like to present and interact with my class, whanau and audience online.  Frustration had begun to set in as I felt I wasn't sure how to go about changing it.   I now can independently do sooooo much more to change and insert things on sites.  This was a real positive inspirational day.  It is so nice to be finishing the day feeling that I accomplished so much and also have the inspiration and motivation to go off and make changes and adaptions that will work well for me, my learners and my  learning community.

Sites EXPLORE

Eyes on text Tshaped literacy.  REading wide and deep.  They say we are not teaching reading well that learners abilities across the board and over the years are dropping.  How can we embrace the technology which is here to stay to embrace and improve reading and reading achievement for our NZ students?  Not all texts are created equal.  Careful text selection is important

  1. Rachel,
I agree with you 100%. It is often the biggest challenge we face and often it is because we doubt ourselves. I have had to overcome the same challenge, not wanting to share my learning and teaching for all the view. We have had many teachers are our school thinking the same also. But the thing is, we are professionals, we are doing our best and we ARE doing a great job! What is seen on your site does not necessarily reflect how you teach.
I like that it is visible to parents now, as I like the fact that there are no surprises. It also keeps me accountable and ensuring that my planning is up to date.
I'm impressed with the amount of knowledge and skill you have taken away from this course and your thorough reflections. I'm look forward to reading your thoughts and ideas again this week! :)

  2. kia ora Rachel,
Wow - what a busy day. Your reflections are insightful and will lead to your growth.
Now that you have the skills and the insight about your class site you will be able to forge ahead with it.
